Abstract:
This study evaluates the risk factors controlling seal integrity and CO₂ storage capacity through a coupled basin–geomechanics workflow. The approach integrates classical 3D basin modeling with finite element geomechanical simulations to reconstruct pressure, stress evolution, and elastic properties over geological time. Particular attention is given to paleo events, which may have altered stress regimes or induced fracturing, thereby impacting present day seal behavior. Applied to the offshore Danish Basin, the model is calibrated on the Lisa structure and extended regionally to areas lacking wells or geomechanical measurements. The resulting present day and paleo stress fields provide constraints on seal failure risk and support regional CCS and O&G exploration assessments.
