Resource Accounts Oil production on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) in 2025 was the highest since 2009. More than half of the production is being replaced with new reserves, and the total petroleum resources on the NCS have increased. Read more

Discovered resources Gas and liquids production was high in 2025. Despite few new development plans, licensees on the fields have replaced three of five produced barrels with new reserves. The volume of contingent resources in fields has declined. Contingent resources in discoveries have increased. Overall, remaining discovered resources have been reduced by about one-half of last year's production. Read more

Undiscovered resources All three ocean areas still hold substantial undiscovered resources. The Barents Sea has the highest resource estimates, as exploration activity here has remained low over a longer period of time. The North Sea holds the fewest undiscovered resources, yet has seen the highest level of exploration activity. Read more
