The CO2 storage atlas of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) has been prepared to identify safe and effective areas for long-term storage of CO2 on the NCS.

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate has mapped areas on the NCS that are suitable for CO2 storage. This mapping shows that it is possible to store large volumes of CO2 in the subsurface.

This is based on access to more than 50 years of data collected in connection with petroleum activities and an estimation of the potential for storing CO2 in the relevant formations.

Based on this, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate developed a CO2 storage atlas in 2014 which reflects the storage opportunities on the NCS. You can download figures and photos in the atlas.

Interactive CO2 atlas

The interactive CO2 atlas details the history of carbon storage on the NCS.

It is designed to make it easier to understand the technical figures and photos. In the CO2 fact map, you can choose to look at the specific objects, which could be formations suitable for storing CO2 or other substances.
