CO2 storage licences
Overview of licences for exploration and exploitation of subsea reservoirs on the NCS for injection and storage of CO2.
A licence pursuant to the CO2 Storage Regulations grants a licence to explore for or exploit a subsea reservoir for injection and storage of CO2 on the NCS. This licence gives an exclusive right to explore or exploit CO2 in the acreage covered by the licence.
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate's role in awarding licences pursuant to the Regulations relating to storage and transportation of CO2 on the continental shelf is to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Energy.
