Norwegian geochemical standards

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate provides Norwegian geochemical standards (NGS) for use in laboratories working with organic geochemical analyses. The standards are developed to ensure reliable and comparable analytical results.

The Norwegian geochemical standards (NGS) consist of reference materials managed and distributed by the Norwegian Offshore Directorate through the Geobank. The standards are used for the calibration and quality assurance of organic geochemical analyses.

NGS consists of three well-characterised samples: two source rocks and one crude oil. These materials provide a common reference framework, supporting the consistency and comparability of analytical results across laboratories.

Links to the Norwegian Geochemical Standards Newsletters (Volumes 1-3) are available below. The newsletters contain background information, analytical data, and documentation related to the standards, and are therefore a useful supplement for users of the samples.
