1/23/2025 Factmaps and Factpages may be unstable Wednesday 29th of January. Maintenance will be done from 09:00 AM.

Factpages

  • Updated pageviews for:
    • Discovery
    • Field
    • Licence
  • Updated tableview for licence
  • Minor bugfixes

Factmaps and services

  • Factmaps in beta replaces current factmaps, new url is https://factmaps.sodir.no/map 
  • Old factmaps will still be available on https://factmaps.sodir.no/factmaps/3_0/ until May 2025.
  • New URL for all services under: https://factmaps.sodir.no/api/rest
    • UTM50 – https://factmaps.sodir.no/api/rest/services/Factmaps/FactMapsED50UTM 32/MapServer
    • WGS84 – https://factmaps.sodir.no/api/rest/services/Factmaps/FactMapsWGS84/MapServer
  • Old and new URLs for services will exist in parallel to May 2025. Same data content and no schema changes in new services compared to old services. Old services will be removed May 2025.
  • Factmaps "staging"-services will be avaliable until May 2025. New services are found under https://factmaps.sodir.no/api/rest
  • New datalayers in services and downloadable FGDB

Oil and gas/condensate discovery near the Tyrihans field in the Norwegian Sea (6407/1-B-2 H)
12/22/2025 Equinor and its partners have discovered oil/condensate/gas in the "Tyrihans Øst" prospect, about 250 kilometres southwest of Brønnøysund.
Gas and condensate discovery in the North Sea (35/8-8 S and A)
12/19/2025 Harbour Energy and its partners have proven gas condensate in the ‘Camilla Nord’ prospect.
Regulatory changes postponed
12/16/2025 The Norwegian Offshore Directorate has put forward proposed changes to the Regulations relating to resource management in the petroleum activities and the Regulations relating to documentation in connection with storage of CO2 on the shelf for public consultation.
Norwegian companies take a more dominant role
12/11/2025 A new report from the Norwegian Offshore Directorate shows that, in 2024, there were 24 oil and gas companies on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). This is the lowest number since activity started up on the shelf. At the same time, developments in exploration activity reveal a clear shift from global to Norwegian players.
