6/5/2026 The Norwegian Offshore Directorate is working to encourage the industry to develop, cooperate more closely and utilise new technology to an even greater extent. Tickets for this year's Technology Day were in high demand.

"We need to work in a targeted way to slow the expected production decline on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). This applies for all phases; from exploration, field development and production to cessation and disposal. Developing and implementing new technology in all these phases is extremely important in order to maintain production as high as possible for as long as possible."

These were the words of Hege Susanne Blåsternes, Director of Offshore Development and Technology at the Norwegian Offshore Directorate.

A day of inspiration

"This is a unique opportunity to get together – across licensees and licence groups – and share experiences. Our hope is that the Technology Day will inspire creativity in new technology development. A lot of very bright people will be coming together here, but the real gold lies in the sharing. I hope this can contribute to good input, motivation and inspiration to try even harder and push the limits even further," Blåsternes says.

This year's seminar was held on 4 June. It was a full house – with a waiting list for seats. Here are the presentations from the seminar.

Important for developing the NCS

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate works to stimulate the industry to develop, cooperate more closely and adopt new technology to an even greater extent. The goal is for technology to permeate all parts of the value chain. This will result in good resource management and the greatest possible value creation.

The Directorate's own technology strategy forms the basis for the agenda at Technology Day.

The strategy consists of the following primary themes:

  • Acquisition of subsurface data
  • Challenging barrels
  • Next-generation production systems

These were the main topics at this year's Technology Day:

  • Acquisition of subsurface data
  • Next-generation production systems
  • Challenging barrels
